Georgia Steel Home Cinema in York
A complete luxury home cinema in York, designed and delivered by Inspire Audio Visual around one simple objective: creating a proper space for watching films.
For this project, Inspire was responsible for far more than the audio visual equipment. We delivered the complete room transformation, including the cinema design, AV system, interior finishes, decoration and bespoke bar area.
At the heart of the room is a 130-inch projection screen, an Epson EH-LS12000B projector and a 5.2.2 Dolby atmos sound system using Artcoustic loudspeakers and dual Artcoustic subwoofers, powered by Denon amplification.
Everything is brought together through Control4 automation, giving the client simple control of the entire cinema from one system.
The result is a dedicated film room that feels every bit as considered aesthetically as it does technically.

The brief
The objective was to create a dedicated home cinema that felt luxurious, comfortable and genuinely enjoyable to spend time in. This wasn't intended to be another television room. The room needed to provide the scale and immersion of a proper cinema while still feeling relaxed enough for regular film nights at home. It also needed character.
Rather than treating the cinema system and interior design as two separate parts of the project, we approached the space as one complete room. The technology, lighting, seating, decoration and bespoke bar were therefore considered together from the beginning.
A Complete Turnkey Home Cinema
One of the defining aspects of this project is that Inspire delivered the complete room rather than simply supplying the AV equipment.

Taking responsibility for the whole project meant we could ensure that the technology worked with the interior rather than being added afterwards. The result is a room that feels coherent and intentionally designed from every angle.
A Proper 130-inch Cinema Experience
Because the room was primarily intended for films, image scale was an important part of the design. We installed a 130-inch projection screen paired with an Epson EH-LS12000B projector. That screen size creates a very different experience from watching even a large television. The image occupies far more of the viewer's field of vision, helping give the room the sense of scale expected from a dedicated cinema.
At the same time, the projection system allows the technology itself to remain secondary to the overall room design. Once the lights come down and the film starts, the screen becomes the focus.
5.2.2 Dolby Surround Sound
The audio system uses a 5.2.2 Dolby surround sound configuration built around Artcoustic loudspeakers.
The system incorporates:
- Front left and right speakers
- Dedicated centre speaker
- Surround channels
- Two overhead height channels
- Dual Artcoustic subwoofers
Denon amplification and processing bring the system together. The objective wasn't simply to create a loud room. Dialogue needs to remain clear.
Effects need to move naturally around the seating position. Music needs scale and detail. And the subwoofers need to provide the impact expected from film soundtracks without overwhelming the room.
Using a properly designed multichannel system allows the sound to surround the viewer rather than simply come from the front of the room.

Designed Primarily for Films
Everything about the room was designed around making watching a film feel like an event. The 130-inch image provides the scale. The Artcoustic system provides the immersion. The darker interior finishes help control the visual environment once the film begins. And the large sectional seating makes the room somewhere you can comfortably spend an entire evening.
This balance is important. A technically impressive cinema isn't particularly successful if nobody wants to spend time in it. The aim was therefore to create somewhere that feels special when a film starts but remains relaxed and inviting before and afterwards.
A Cinema Room with Character
Dedicated cinema rooms don't have to look like commercial cinemas. This space uses a dark, contemporary palette combined with warm architectural lighting and soft furnishings to create a more residential feel.
The panelled walls, integrated lighting and contrasting textures add depth to the room without competing with the screen. A distinctive illuminated STEEL feature adds personality and makes the space instantly recognisable.
The design feels personal to the homeowner rather than like a generic cinema installation.

A Bespoke Cinema Bar
A cinema room should work before the film starts as well as during it. We therefore incorporated a bespoke bar area into the room. Rather than treating this as an unrelated piece of furniture, the bar was designed as part of the overall cinema environment, using finishes that complement the rest of the interior.
It gives the room another social dimension and makes the space equally suited to entertaining friends as it is to watching a film. That combination helps turn the cinema into a destination within the home rather than simply a room containing AV equipment.
Simple Control Through Control4
Despite the amount of technology involved, operating the cinema needed to remain simple. The entire system is controlled through Control4 automation.
Rather than managing separate remotes for the projector, amplifier and source equipment, the client interacts with one system. Selecting a source allows Control4 to take care of the required equipment behind the scenes.
This is particularly important in a dedicated cinema. The user shouldn't have to understand how the system works.
They should be able to sit down, choose what they want to watch and enjoy the room.
Control4 brings the cinema equipment together behind one simple user interface.
Technology without Dominating the Room
Although this is a technically sophisticated cinema, the finished room doesn't feel dominated by equipment. That was deliberate. The screen, speakers, amplification, projection and automation all have important roles, but none of them should become more important visually than the space itself.
Good cinema design involves balancing performance with the architecture and interior. The homeowner experiences the film. The technology works quietly behind it.
Designed and Delivered by One Team
This project demonstrates the difference between installing cinema equipment and delivering a complete cinema room.
By managing the AV system alongside the room finishes, decoration and bespoke elements, Inspire was able to maintain one design direction throughout the project. There were fewer compromises between the technical and visual elements because both were being considered together.
For homeowners planning a dedicated cinema, this approach can be particularly valuable. The position of a speaker can influence the joinery. The screen size affects seating position. Lighting influences projection performance. Equipment ventilation affects cabinetry. Acoustics influence finishes.
Treating these elements independently often leads to compromises later. Designing the room as one system avoids many of those problems.

The Finished Results
This York home cinema combines everything we believe a successful dedicated cinema should deliver. A genuinely large image. Immersive sound. Comfortable seating. Simple operation. A carefully considered interior. And enough personality that the space feels like part of the client's home rather than a commercial screening room.
The final specification includes a 130-inch projection screen, Epson EH-LS12000B projection, 5.2.2 Artcoustic surround sound, dual Artcoustic subwoofers, Denon amplification and full Control4 automation. But ultimately, specifications aren't the reason the room works. The important part is what happens when the lights go down.
The technology disappears and the film takes over.
